On a hot summer day in late June 2014, Brittney Noble met Jacob Chapman at Shocco Springs Baptist Convention Center near Talladega, AL. She was dressed in blue, with braids in her hair; he was covered in orange paint and shaving cream. There in the middle of the sprawling recreation field a camp crush was born.

A few short weeks later, camp was coming to an end. All the campers had gone home, the stage and sound and lighting equipment was packed away in trucks, and a campfire was planned for the staffers on that last night together. Jacob was invited to stay and join them on this final night as an “adopted” member of the camp staffer family. S’mores, laughter, and plenty of blushing smiles were shared by the camp couple. As the fire died down to its embers, Jacob offered to walk Brittney back to her room. They held hands under the moonlight of the clear night sky, walking a little extra slow to enjoy this moment together.

Early the next morning, before the sun had fully crested the horizon, the camp couple met to exchange their goodbyes. After a meandering stroll up the long road to the parking lot, Brittney and Jacob hugged one another close — neither one wanting to say the impending farewells. He reluctantly climbed up into the driver seat of the box truck, and before he could go any further she climbed up after him and hugged his neck, and he kissed her.

Brittney and Jacob dated for three years, and on May 11, 2017 he proposed at Shocco Springs Baptist Convention Center, just a stone’s throw away from where they had shared their first kiss. She said yes!
